YMCA Camp Kanannaq

Our mission is to provide opportunities and enriching experiences that challenge oneself and build confidence while developing respect for the outdoors. We are a values-centered camp, based on the YMCA values of caring, honesty, responsibility, respect, and inclusivity.

YMCA Camp Kanannaq is located on 200 acres of lakefront property with a vibrant forest. We have a beautiful waterfront where campers will spend part of their day swimming or boating; and many forested program spaces for activities such as archery, fire-building, orienteering, and knot-tying! Camp also has a large indoor meeting space, a dining hall where campers will eat their lunch, and a campfire area where campers will start and end each day. We have several covered spaces for shelter from the rain or sun. There are outhouses, handwashing, and water stations located throughout the site. YMCA Camp Kanannaq is the perfect place for campers to learn new skills, create long-lasting memories, and develop a love for the outdoors.

YMCA Day Camp and Juniper

YMCA Day Camp programs for campers ages 5-13 include activities such as canoeing, swimming, wilderness activities, team games, arts & crafts, and so much more. Activities are planned so that campers get to try out and learn new skills as they grow older.

Campers are put into teams for their session based on age. Team age groups are: Willow: 5-6 years; Fir: 7-8 years; Spruce: 9-11 years; Aspen: 12-13 years

The Juniper Program supports youth ages 14-18 who have diverse abilities and/or additional needs to continue to participate in our day camp programs, alongside our Aspen Campers. This program focuses on having fun, building confidence, and fostering a sense of belonging.

We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to attend camp, which is why our YMCA COMMUNITY Campaign financially assists 1 in 4 campers to attend our summer camp programs. Don’t let a child you know miss out on the opportunity of a life time. Apply for a campership and give them the confidence they need to thrive.

YMCA Youth Programs

Our Tamarack Teen Camp program for campers ages 13-15 is an opportunity for campers to expand their wilderness skills, explore Nadsinilch Lake, create art & crafts projects, relax, and have fun! Our dedicated Tamarack staff ensure each session is packed with the best we have to offer.

Our Pine Leadership Development program is an opportunity for youth to learn valuable leadership skills, gain volunteer hours, and develop a sense of responsibility and initiative. In LD 1, campers focus on learning how to lead activities, team building, and supporting others. In LD 2 campers take on more responsibility; helping staff facilitate and plan activities and working with younger campers.

Thank You to the Ryan Shiels Fund

The YMCA BC- Northern BC would like to give heartfelt thanks to the Ryan Shiels Fund for their continuous support. These funds provide continued annual support to the Youth Programs. They have provided equipment including a canoe trailer, five canoes, tents, sleeping, bags, paddles, etc. These funds allow participants in the Youth Program to take part in the out trip to Carp Lake, the Bowron Lake west-end circuit and Mount Robson, as in the picture of Ryan. Thank you for the generous support to continue the legacy of outdoor adventure in youth.
