Camps and Outdoor Education

YMCA Summer Camps are where summer happens! We believe that connection to nature is fundamental to helping children thrive, which is why we offer a program for every stage of child’s journey. Camp Kanannaq, located on the beautiful and quiet Nadsilnich (West) Lake, is the perfect setting for your child to find new friends, discover new experiences, and create new memories that last a lifetime. Our enthusiastic Counselors will build positive relationships with each camper in our inclusive camp community that focuses on the YMCA Core Values of honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, and inclusivity.

YMCA Camp Kanannaq: Day Camp and Juniper

YMCA Camp Kanannaq’s Day Camp programs, catering to ages 5-13, offer a week filled with action and the excitement reminiscent of an overnight summer camp adventure! Our Juniper program is dedicated to supporting youth ages 14-18 with diverse abilities and/or additional needs, ensuring their continued participation in our day camp activities. Each morning, all campers board the Y bus, and head out to Nadsilnich Lake for a day filled with camp fun, including an obstacle course, archery, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and more! The bead program encourages campers to engage in an environment built on the Y values of honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, and inclusivity.

YMCA Camp Kanannaq- Youth Programs

At YMCA Camp Kanannaq, we provide a range of programs tailored for youth ages 13-17. Those between 13 and 15 can engage in either the Tamarack Teen Camp program or our Pine Leadership Development 1 program. Teen Camp offers campers an opportunity to enhance their wilderness skills, explore the lake, engage in arts and crafts projects, and simply enjoy themselves. In Pine LD1, campers concentrate on acquiring leadership skills, team building, and providing support to others.

For youth ages 15-17, our Pine Leadership Development 2 program offers a chance to take on increased responsibility. Participants actively assist staff in planning and facilitating activities while also working with younger campers.

Outdoor Education

YMCA Outdoor Education brings learning to life as enthusiastic staff guide children through a hands-on learning experience, programmed to meet the BC curriculum. Our program is designed to get kids active and learning outdoors. Children will explore their classroom learnings through an interpretive hike and pond study, staff will guide children through team building activities and finish an interactive camp fire! We welcome elementary schools and other community and youth organizations during May and June.
